Local Government Aid (LGA) – City Jobs Base
Chapter 366 (H.F. 3149) as passed during the 2008 legislative session establishes a city jobs base factor for calculating aid to local governments for all cities with a population of 5,000 or more. The jobs per capita number is based on the average annual number of jobs in a city as certified by the Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
The timeline for this certification is as follows:
| May 1, 2008 | Job data available by this date used to calculate city jobs base. |
| June 1, 2008 | DEED certifies total job level for each city (see preliminary certified job counts). DEED's employment data for individual companies is confidential and cannot be disclosed. | June 20, 2008 | Cities must report any objections to certified job levels to DEED (fax objections to 651-215-3841 or e-mail to cityjobsbase.objections@state.mn.us) by this date. Objections must include specific information including contact name, phone number and name(s) of employers that may have misreported employment data. |
| July 15, 2008 | DEED completes investigation of objections and certifies data (including adjusted data) to Minnesota Dept. of Revenue (see final certified job counts). |
