Pre-Development Grant
Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP) Program pre-development grants assist in covering costs associated with planning a specific, large-scale Partnership Program project. Grants are awarded to accredited Minnesota educational institutions with businesses as partners. The intended outcome of a pre-development grant project is that the applicant will have an innovative, highly defined curriculum plan and work statement for inclusion in the Partnership grant application.
Grants must be used to increase the applicant's knowledge of employment need, skills training, and education for developing a Partnership grant proposal that will provide training for high-wage, high-growth, and high-skill occupations, businesses, and industries. Projects that demonstrate cash commitments from other parties receive greater consideration. Preference is given to institutions that serve economically disadvantaged people, minorities, or those who are victims of economic dislocation; and to businesses located in rural areas. Any single pre-development grant to any one institution may not exceed $50,000. The maximum Partnership Program grant following a pre-development grant will be reduced by the amount of the pre-development grant. A pre-development grant application must demonstrate that the project will address education and skills training for high-wage, high-growth, and high-skill occupations, businesses, and industries. In addition, a pre-development grant should demonstrate that the educational institution will develop a significant amount of new capacity. Very few projects qualify for pre-development funds; therefore, any potential pre-development grant applications should be discussed with MJSP staff prior to the submission of a proposal.
The MJSP Board awards the grants. Normally, several grant rounds are held each year. Grant application deadlines are posted on the MJSP Board web page and are also published in Minnesota's State Register. Interested businesses should contact their local accredited Minnesota educational institution to inquire about the possibility of submitting a grant application.
