Brazilian Ambassador to Keynote Minnesota Trade Conference

St. PaulH.E. Antonio Patriota, the Brazilian ambassador to the United States, will be the keynote speaker during lunch at the Governor’s International Trade Conference on Thursday, Oct. 2, in Minneapolis.

Minnesota First Lady Mary Pawlenty will present the Governor’s International Trade Awards to nine Minnesota companies that have excelled in the international marketplace. Last year’s winners were Satellite Industries Inc. of Plymouth, Capital City USA of Red Wing, Digital River Inc. of Eden Prairie, and Excalibur Sires of Rochester.

The conference will be held at Windows on Minnesota on the 50th floor of the IDS Center in downtown Minneapolis beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event will include a panel discussion, training sessions, presentations and networking opportunities. Some of the session topics will include “Emerging Trends in India,”  “Communicating Across Cultures,” “Opportunities in Latin America” and “Discovering New Markets: Russia.” The day will conclude with an international business networking reception from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Governor’s Global Trade Conference is sponsored by the Minnesota Trade Office to acknowledge and celebrate the importance of international trade to the state’s economy.

Foreign trade is among the bright spots of the Minnesota economy, with state manufactured exports reaching a record $16.2 billion in 2007 and continuing on a strong pace this year. Canada was the state’s largest trade partner last year, followed by China, Ireland, Japan and Germany.

Computers and electronics are the state’s largest manufactured export, followed by machinery, transportation equipment, miscellaneous products including medical devices, and food.
