Minnesota Veterans Career Fair Set For October 9

St. Paul - Minnesota veterans will be able to meet with over 130 employers and service providers, including college representatives, at a career fair on Thursday, October 9, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Earle Brown Heritage Center, 6155 Earle Brown Drive, Brooklyn Center.

Employers will be on hand to talk to veterans about a variety of job opportunities located throughout Minnesota. Service providers and college representatives will help ensure veterans are on the right path to meet their career goals.

Veterans can also connect with MinnesotaWorks.net, the state’s largest free online resume and job matching Web site that includes a simple step leading to preference in hiring.

“Minnesota’s Veterans Career Fair provides an important forum for veterans, employers and educators to meet and make connections,” said Dan McElroy, Commissioner, Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. “DEED is proud and honored to host the Veterans Career Fair for a second year.”

Additional features of the Veterans Career Fair include two informational sessions for veterans:

  • At 12:30 p.m., a panel of employers from companies throughout the state will address what employers look for in job candidates, offer job search tips, and answer audience questions.
  • At 1:30 p.m., Amy Lindgren, president and founder, Prototype Career Service, will present a 60-minute workshop titled “(Not So) Basic Job search Training for Veterans.” This session will focus on trends in hiring; job search steps to reach employers; selling your skills effectively and getting it done!

Free admission, free parking, free sign language and Spanish interpreters will be available throughout the event. Directions and a complete list of participating employers are available at www.positivelyminnesota.com www.positivelyminnesota.com and click on ‘Veterans Career Fair.’

The Minnesota Veterans Career Fair is hosted by the Veterans Employment Services unit of the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, and is sponsored by CH Robinson Worldwide, Inc., Paychex, Inc., St. Jude Medical and Wackenhut G4S.
